Mexico announces the export authorization for two new fruits of American health authorities.
SAGARPA , the Secretariat of the Mexican agriculture, announced that the United States has authorized the export of fig and tejocote . Tejocote (Crataegus mexicana ) is a species of hawthorn known by the common names Tejocote , manzanita , tejocotera or Mexican hawthorn.
SAGARPA considers that the opening of the export market will certainly advance the acreage of these crops.According to the statistics service , the country has 1,200 hectares cultivated figs (states of Morelos , Baja California, Puebla , Hidalgo ) for an estimated production of 5,200 tons. For Tejocote about 900 hectares cultivated ( Puebla states , Distrito Federal) for a production of 3500 tons.
