Traffic record for the Port of Hamburg

The port of Hamburg increases its container traffic and could beat its absolute traffic record this year.

Best first half of its history and possible traffic record for 2014.

The port of Hamburg established a new record in first 9 months of 2014, with 110 million tons of goods. Container traffic dominating the port increased by + 6.4% with a record figure of 7.4 million TEU (20 - ft standard containers , EVP equivalent 20 - feet).

Hamburg increases its share of the North European market to 26.7% against 26.1 % a 1 year ago, and is growing faster than its competitors. Rotterdam has achieved 4.2% at 9.2 million TEUs and Antwerp + 5 % to 6.7 million TEUs.

The end of the year could know a slowdown due to the effects of the Russian embargo but progress will continue. The port authorities expect to beat the absolute record with a total traffic of 145 million tons and 9.7 million TEUs. The previous record was in 2008 with 140 million tons.
