French strawberries are about 15 days late from their usual schedule, but will now begin to fill the shelves.
French production is less than early last year because after the cold spell of February, the production schedule has been delayed by about fifteen days compared to last year. Volumes are limited so far, but production is now rising and the peak is expected in mid-May.
Estimated domestic production is 51,000 tons, up 1% compared to last year. The surfaces were stable (
3,000 ha) and average yields are identical.
French production of strawberries is the sixth largest in Europe, behind Spain (first with 300,000 t.), Poland (200,000 t.) And Germany (157 000 t.).
