In China, as in many countries around the world, the demand for organic food and products continues to grow.
From 2005 to 2018, the total area of organic farming was multiplied by more than 5 in China, reaching 3.1 million hectares. In 2017, China ranked 3rd in the world, just behind Australia and Argentina. In terms of sales of organic agricultural products, China ranks 4th, after the United States, Germany and France.
Food security has become a key concern. Different levels of government in the country are proposing various measures to support organic production. Support concerns the cost of organic certification, site selection, financing of agricultural infrastructure and organic fertilizers, as well as training and marketing assistance.
These models of agricultural development and the production of organic food continue to gain popularity. Since the pandemic, Chinese consumers seem to be increasingly willing to choose safe and healthy food, which has resulted in a huge increase in online sales.
