The growing surfaces for potatoes is down in the 5 countries of NEPG and will cause a decrease in total production.
NEPG (North-Western European Potato Growers) brings together professionals from 5 countries: Germany, Belgium, France, Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
The latest estimate states that surfaces will fall by 3.5% in 2012. This decrease varies between countries with Belgium down 7%, the United Kingdom -5.5% and France -0.2%
. No country of NEPG is increasing its surfaces.
Based on averages over 5 years and lower surfaces of 3.5%, NEPG predicts a harvest of 24.2 million tons. The harvest this year will be down 9.3% compared to 26.7 million tons last year.
