Superior harvest and extended commercial window in 2020 for avocados from Peru

In Peru professionals predict that the 2020 campaign, will exceed last year's export volume. Higher volume but also extended calendar availability thanks to the new zones which will start to produce.

 

 

 

According to the association ProHass (Asociacion de Productores de Palta Hass del Perú), avocado exports for this 2020 campaign will exceed the volume shipped in 2019 (285,000 tonnes).

 

 

 

This increase will be due to new zones which will enter into production, as well as increase in productivity of young plants. Around the end of January, a 1st real estimate of the volume should be established.

 

 

 

The planned volume increase will be accompanied by a longer supply period. Indeed the new avocado areas will produce earlier. Until now, the Hass avocado season with significant commercial volumes started at the end of April, but with the entry into production of the new zones this will happen in early April or late March. Provided however that the fruit has reached the required percentage of dry matter.
