The 2014 campaign looks promising, much better than last year.
The association "Mirabelle de Lorraine" has announced its harvest prospects for next season. Total production is expected to reach 13 000 tons of which 10 000 tons for PGI plums (Protected Geographical Indication). The beginning of the harvest is fixed at August 8, or 1st week ahead of schedule of a normal season.
The production in 2014 will be much better than last year (9,000 tons of which 6,000 tons of PGI Mirabelles plums) where weather conditions were pretty bad. This year, on the contrary, a mild winter and a sunny spring have resulted in exceptional flowering promise of a good harvest.
The association "Mirabelle de Lorraine" was established in 1995 and holds the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) as well as the brand "Mirabelle de Lorraine". The association is composed of 250 producers 4 and cooperatives.
