The EU provides financial support to the Cameroon banana sector to help it double its production.
European financial support is being given to the banana sector to help it double production.
The diplomatic mission from the European Union in Yaounde (Cameroon) announced a €48 million aid for bananas in order to help double production by 2013 and reach 500,000 tons.
This aid is part of the implementation of
Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) signed since 2009 between the EU and Cameroon. The EPA is part of the broader framework of agreements between the EU and the Central African region.
Cameroon produced 230,000 tons of bananas in 2010 and 250,000 t in 2011.
