The steepest production decline was recorded in Arequipa.

Peru’s potato production fell sharply in September 2025, dropping to 148,297 tonnes, a decline of 24.3% compared to the same month last year, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).

In its latest report, “Peru: Departmental Economic Outlook – September 2025,” INEI attributed the downturn to lower harvest volumes, compounded by adverse weather conditions that disrupted crop development and the maturation stage of the tuber.

At the regional level, the steepest production declines were recorded in Arequipa (-78.9%), Ayacucho (-76.7%), Huancavelica (-73.3%), Piura (-61.7%), and Ica (-11.8%).

Despite the overall contraction, potato production showed strong growth in several key domestic-market regions. La Libertad (+128.1%), Lima (+32.4%), Huánuco (+20.5%), and Cajamarca (+8.2%) together accounted for 62.8% of national output. Additional increases were also reported in Lambayeque (+116.7%), Pasco (+110.2%), and Apurímac (+56.2%).
