Yen-dollar parity represents a unique opportunity to expand the Aeon group
Japanese retailer Aeon will accelerate its international expansion much faster than originally planned.
The group's finance director, in an interview with Bloomberg, said that the economic environment is favourable with yen-dollar parity representing a unique strategic opportunity to expand the group.
Internal expansion and the acquisition of the Marunaka chain has strengthened its operations and increased sales to allow
growth outside Japan. In August, there were 1,277 Aeon supermarkets in Japan, nine in China, four in Malaysia and 20 in Thailand.
Cash (325 billion yen for the previous year - 3 billion euros) and a strong currency will bring Aeon has rapid international expansion. The Japanese retailer will open new stores in China, Vietnam and Cambodia.
