Evolution still rising for the prices of fruits and vegetables in Tunisia.
Prices are still rising (+ 200% for fruits and vegetables between 2016 and 2017), disruptions in the sector, the announcement and cancellation of a general strike by Fruit and Vegetable traders.
Food prices in Tunisia have evolved sharply, so prices for fruit and vegetables have increased by 200% between 2016 and 2017. According to some professionals, it is not a lack of production that would be the reason but rather the inefficiency of distribution channels. Negotiations began with the public authorities.
At the heart of the debates, a law that dates back 29 years and that sets the profit margin of traders. A revision of the law is required as well as better control of supply and distribution channels, from production to market stalls.
The general strike of Fruit & Vegetable traders, scheduled from 11 to 13 April, has just been canceled.
