The European Union authorized imports of Argentine citrus fruits for the 2021 campaign

Citrus exports from Argentina to Europe were suspended in August, 2020, due to a large number of detections of Phyllosticta citricarpa (known as "black spot") in their supplies.
In order to lift the suspension, Argentina responded to the demands of the European Union, having strengthened its sanitary system by registering production plots and their production units in the country of origin, and assigning unique traceability codes in supplies and production units, which guarantee the absence of Phyllosticta citricarpa through official inspections.
On April 27, 2021, through a joint effort between the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SENASA and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, the European Union authorized the imports of Argentine citrus fruits for the 2021 growing and export period, which begins on the 1st of May.
In this way, Europe confirms the appropriate quality of Argentine citrus fruits, free of Phyllosticta citricarpa.
The EU is the main recipient of Argentine lemons, and the fourth recipient of oranges.
This reopening of the European market will benefit the regional economies of the NOA and NEA, maintaining exports that will allow foreign exchange to enter Argentina.
