Since January 2021, the Qatari market has recorded the marketing of 10 million kg of locally produced vegetables. This volume is double the quantity marketed during the same period last year.
Established in 2018, Mahaseel for Marketing and Agri.Services, the marketing arm of Hassad Food, aims to support the expansion of local agricultural production, helping local farmers to market their products. Mahaseel provides marketing services to over 350 local farms.
“We are delighted to announce that Mahaseel has marketed 10 million kilograms of fresh vegetables to the local market since the start of 2021. This quantity is equivalent to double the quantity marketed during the same period last year, which shows the company's success in promoting local products, ”said Mr. Mohamed Ali Al Ghaithani, General Manager of Mahaseel. "
Mahaseel’s market share has increased to 33% for local products this year from 20% last year, ”said Al Ghaithani. Adding that the total purchase value of fresh produce from local farmers exceeded 50 million QAR ($13.7 million) in 2020, and that since the start of 2021 it has reached 29 million QAR ($7.96 million).
The company handled more than 16,000 deliveries in 2020 and already more than 5,200 deliveries since the start of 2021. Mahaseel receives the fresh vegetables then sorts and classifies the products and distributes them through more than 100 points of sale in the country, including the Al Meera, Lulu and Carrefour distribution chains.
