Favorable agricultural conditions and growing global demand drove a record year for both countries.

Mexico and Peru consolidated their leadership in the global avocado trade in 2024, with double-digit export growth marking a record year for both countries.

According to Latin media, Mexico topped the list with sales of US$3.787 billion, a 20% year-on-year increase, while Peru came in second place with US$1.248 billion, up 29%. They were followed by the Netherlands (1,235 million), Spain (463 million) and Morocco (315 million), which joined the ranking with strength after starting exports.

Colombia also stood out with a 54% increase, reaching 310 million, and South Africa grew by 42%, reflecting a global expansion of the product. Mexican production totaled 2.67 million tons, consolidating its position as the world's largest avocado producer.

Its dominance is explained by favorable natural conditions: temperate sub-humid climate, fertile soils, optimum altitude and up to four blooms per year, which allows for a constant supply. In addition, more than 87% of the cultivation areas are certified as pest-free, according to official data.
