NEPG : potato harvest down 14.5%
The potato harvest in the countries of north-west Europe is expected to drop 14.5%.
The NEPG (North-Western European Potato Growers) estimates the total production in NEPG countries (Germany, Belgium, France, Great Britain and the Netherlands) will reach nearly 23 million tons, or 14.5% less than the last year. Crops decline of 5.8% and yield per hectare decreased by 9.2%.
These early indications of harvest are based on samples taken in the field. The NEPG expects that there is a good demand for both export and processing. The needs of the processing industry in the Benelux could, for the first time in history, be higher than the production in these countries. Imports from neighboring countries (Germany and France) seem essential.
