Exports of melons (CANTALOUPE, GALIA, HONEYDEW, SAPO PIEL, CHARENTAIS) and watermelon have decreased in value.

The report by BCH (Central Bank of Honduras) shows that exports of melons and watermelons have generated revenues down by 6.2% at the end of 2016.

According to this report melons and watermelons exported generated USD 53.3 billion of revenue, a decrease of USD 3.5 million. Internationally, prices were down (7.1%). This has affected companies that have made significant investments in increasing the volume of their exports.

The main export markets are the United States and the EU where fruits from Honduras compete with products from Guatemala and Brazil.

In order to further develop exports, Honduras needs to find new markets, particularly in Asia.
