Result of climate change in Tanzania : producers abandon certain crops ( coffee, cotton) for others (flowers and vegetables).
Coffee production in the Kilimanjaro region is falling. Higher night temperatures result in a significant decline in coffee production So for 1 ° C higher in the average low , yield loss may reach 137 kg of coffee per hectare per year .
As farmers turn to other crops. Hundreds of farmers have started planting vegetables: cabbage, onions , lettuce, potatoes.These new cultures become an important source of revenue for the country. Exports increased by about 1 / 5th of last year totaling USD 447 million and representing nearly 38% of total agricultural exports , according to the Tanzania Revenue Authority .
