Production of 200 000 tonnes of mangoes and only 8 000 tonnes exported.
Encouraging results for the mango 2016 campaign, but the sector could record much better results according to the professionals.
APROMAB (Interprofessional Mango Association of Burkina Faso) presented the results of the 2016 campaign to the actors of the sector. For production, the total is 200 000 tonnes of mangoes, for marketing 8 000 tonnes of mangoes exported, processing 1,930 tonnes of mangoes processed and sold. APROMAB points out that the rate of increase for processing is 59% and for marketing 78%.
The result is satisfactory compared to previous years. Many things will need to be improved for a much better 2017 campaign. Notably with measures to combat the ravages of the fruit fly, as well as with reinforced support to the actors of the sector, with regard to storage and processing.
