Biotalys awaiting EPA approval for its first protein-based biocontrol
Biotalys NV, a Belgian transformative food and crop protection company, announced that it has submitted its first protein-based biocontrol, Evoca™, to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for approval.
This biocontrol will offer US fruit and vegetable growers a new way to tackle major diseases such as Botrytis cinerea and powdery mildew throughout the food value chain. This will maximize yields and extend shelf life after harvest of produce with significantly lower residues. Due to its new mode of action and favorable safety profile, Evoca provides growers with rotational options to manage resistance in a more sustainable way.
Luc Maertens, COO of Biotalys, said, “We are thrilled to have begun the EPA registration process for its first product.”
The submission of product is the result of the successful completion of Evoca's extensive field product development program and regulatory studies. More than 200 field and greenhouse trials around the world have demonstrated high consistency in the effective control of major pathogens in fruit and vegetable crops. With this submission and pending regulatory approvals, the company plans to introduce Evoca to selected regions in the US market at the end of 2022.
Biotalys will proceed with international registration on its own, retaining full ownership of all rights. In line with Evoca's go-to-market strategy, filing in the USA will be followed by filing in the European Union. Major agricultural markets in Latin America and Asia are subjects to registration in the future.
