The Association Agreement between the EU and Central America will enter into force late 2012 or early 2013.
The Association Agreement between the EU and six Central American countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama) was signed on June 29 in Tegucigalpa (Honduras). Its ratification by the European Parliament is expected in the coming days and its entry into force by the end of 2012 or early 2013. The agreement includes the abolition of some customs duties.

Rica exported 3.4 million tons (1.7 million tons of bananas, 1.5 million tons of pineapples), Guatemala exported 2.3 million tons (2.1 million tons of fruits, including 1.4 million of bananas), Honduras exported 926,000 tons (518,000 tons of bananas), Panama 429,000 tons (257,000 bananas), Nicaragua exported 153,000 tons of fruit and vegetables and El Salvador 3,500 tons of fruit and vegetables.
