Decline in value for Spanish exports, but some products such as apples or pears on the contrary have made good progress.

Spanish exports of Fruits & Vegetables declined in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period of 2017, while the volume is almost stable according to data from the Directorate General of Customs, processed by FEPEX.

In the first quarter of 2018 Spanish exports of Fruits & Vegetables decreased by 6% compared to the same period in 2017, with a total of 3,839 million euros. The volume is almost stable at 3.5 million tonnes (-0.2%).

This decline in the value of Spanish exports could be explained by the low average price of the main vegetables exported: tomatoes (-13%), lettuce (-14%), peppers (-7%), cucumbers (- 14%), cabbages (-7%).

Fruit exports recorded a volume decrease of 7% while the value remains similar to the previous period. But after citrus, strawberry seems to decline with 20% less in volume and 9% less in value. On the contrary, exports of pome fruits increased in volume (+ 14%) and in value (+ 37%).
