Halls succeeds in Brazilian avocado supply
VU | Halls
Since 2017, Halls and its Brazilian partners have been developing Brazil as a world avocado supply origin. The favourable supply parameters and perfect orchard growing conditions of this country have brought this partnership to success.
Halls, ACMH International and nationally recognised commercial farming operations, Campo de Ouro and Grupo Bonella, obtained first positive outcomes of avocado production in their 2017 exports. The partnership provides an alternative supply of fruit for its huge customer base in China and Europe during the European summer supply window.
Being the natural origin of avocado, certain regions of Brazil have a favourable climate for production with suitable site elevation, temperature, soil, and rainfall parameters, enabling sustainable, high yielding avocado cultivation. The 900 hectares of Hass avocado orchards are managed with modern farming techniques paying particular attention to maturity levels to guarantee the ideal harvest window, and in turn delivering solid shelf life, high quality fruit, and reduced food waste.
This fruit can be effectively transported from Brazil to Europe within 15 days, facilitated by efficient packing facilities, appropriate road infrastructure, good shipping ports and stable weekly shipping schedules.
This project appears as a result of a partnership between Stephane Hellin, founder of ACMH International, and Halls in 2017. The opportunity to export Hass avocado from Brazil was clear from the onset. In the beginning, the challenge remained in identifying long term, sustainable grower partners who could bring this potential to life.
The perfect partners were identified and are family owned with the same values and a pioneering spirit. Ana Krishna and her father Ronaldo Morini Ferreira, the owners of Campo de Ouro Farm in the Piraju region of São Paulo state, and José Alcides Bonella and his son Fernando, who farm inTrȇs Corações in the state of Minas Gerais, the later production region.
Stephane Hellin said that the technical extension services offered to their farms and the values of developing long-term relationships are at core of their partnership.
Halls is pleased to cooperate with family businesses whose values and heritage are similar to its own agricultural heritage, which has a 130-year history.
For Halls and its Brazilian grower partners, it is essential that fruit from this origin is sourced responsibly from sustainable cultivation practices. The focus on environmental conservation, food safety and social compliance criteria are reflected in achieved accreditations. The fusion of sustainable farming philosophy and strong values-based businesses guarantee the best quality fruit from Brazil.
