Tosca expands supply chain traceability with Asset IQ

Tosca is expanding the use of its Asset IQ traceability service to help companies track reusable assets across complex supply chains.

Active and passive tracking options

The system combines two types of tracking. Asset IQ Active uses IoT-enabled technology to provide real-time information for higher-value assets, including location and condition data. Asset IQ Passive uses RFID and barcode tools for larger volumes of containers and pallets where lower-cost tracking is more practical.

The service can be used with Tosca’s reusable packaging under pooling, rental and direct sales models, as well as with third-party assets. It creates a digital record of asset movements and use throughout the supply chain.

Eric Frank, CEO of Tosca, said the platform was developed from the company’s experience managing complex asset flows and is designed to let customers choose different levels of traceability while keeping information in one system.

Improving supply chain visibility

Tosca said the data can help businesses improve inventory control, identify bottlenecks, plan routes more efficiently and reduce unnecessary transport. Better visibility can also support sustainability goals by limiting asset losses and improving the use of reusable packaging.

Hybrid tracking applications

The company is also exploring hybrid applications that combine active and passive technologies. Frank said one possible model would use an actively tracked pallet carrying several passive-tagged crates, allowing companies to monitor different levels of a shipment without applying the same technology to every asset.

Applications across multiple sectors

Asset IQ is used across retail, food, beverage and consumer goods supply chains, where companies need greater visibility over reusable containers, pallets and distribution flows.
