Perla Fruit cherry season's success with Compac InVision2 sorting technology
Turkish packer and exporter Perla Fruit is on the way to successfully completing its first cherry season. The result of company that Established in June 2019 is more remarkable because it is happening in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
One of the company's successful decisions was the choice of Compac as a partner for its automatic sorting technology. Compac, part of the TOMRA Food family, its distributor ICOEL and Turkish agent Sardas identifed the best solution and designed a customized layout to fit the dimensions of the packhouse. The companies made everything possible and completed the timely installation of a new turnkey cherry grading and packing line that equipped with Compac InVision2 electronic grading platform.
The Compac Small Fruit Sorter sorts fruits onto lanes where each individual fruit rotates under InVision2 cameras, which achieves extremely accurate and consistent grading for size, shape, softness, color and blemishes. Then the cherries are distributed to flumes, which convey them to manual grading tables, and then ICOEL box fillers.
“This is very important for us because some days we pack for 10 different customers, 15 different types of packaging, different colors, different sizes – even different customer specifications,” explains Murat Hamdi Taner, General Manager of Perla Fruit.
Compac system also enabled Perla Fruit to solve labor shortages, as the selection lines require only one worker on each side for checking the quality of the fruit being packed and adjusting the system’s settings.
The cherry season is still ongoing, and as it progresses, the Compac's sorting system is able to adapt to changing requirements. “We are packing about 120 tonnes a day in two shifts, and we are planning to increase to 150 tonnes a day by extending the working hours. It is our first year, and we expect to export more than 4,000 tonnes for the full season. We are very satisfied with Compac,” adds Hamdi Taner.
