Producers in La Guajira received practical guidance on agricultural standards, sanitary requirements and registration procedures.
Colombia's Agricultural Institute (ICA) has joined forces with ASOHOFRUCOL and AGROSAVIA to help banana, plantain, melon and pumpkin growers in La Guajira prepare for domestic and international markets.
The initiative brought together 56 participants from San Juan del Cesar and La Jagua del Pilar for field activities focused on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification and the registration of production sites intended for fresh vegetable exports.
ICA specialists explained the applicable regulations and procedures for registering production areas, exporters and packing facilities. Crop health, traceability and compliance with sanitary requirements were also covered.
The training is intended to help local producers improve their agricultural practices and understand the steps necessary to meet commercial requirements.
