Peru’s fruit and vegetable exports near US$3 billion by May

Peru exported US$2.85 billion worth of fruit and vegetables between January and May 2026, up 15.8% from the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI).

The category accounted for 64.1% of the country’s non-traditional agricultural exports during the five-month period.

The United States, the Netherlands and Spain were among the main markets. Together with the United Kingdom, Mexico, Canada, China, South Korea, Chile and Japan, the ten leading destinations represented 87.2% of export value.

Growth was recorded in 14 of Peru’s 24 departments. Shipments from the country’s highland regions increased by 16.5%, while exports from coastal regions rose by 7.1%.

MIDAGRI said Peru remains the world’s largest exporter of grapes and blueberries and the second-largest exporter of avocados. The country is also a major supplier of fresh asparagus, citrus fruit and mangoes.

Peru secured 19 new international sanitary and phytosanitary market access agreements, creating additional export opportunities for producers. In 2025, the country’s fruit and vegetable exports exceeded US$8.1 billion.
