Paris-Rungis and its international market for fruit and vegetables, has been selected to be part of the network Cités de la Gastronomie.
The project la Cité de la Gastronomie (citiy of gastronomy) intended to promote gastronomic meals from France (UNESCO Heritage 2010) led to a competition between Beaune, Dijon, Lyon, Paris-Rungis, Tours and Versailles.
After reviewing the files, the Ministries of Agriculture, Food and Culture, took an original decision. No city has met all the requirements (funding,
reception areas, cultural and scientific content) so they have decided to set up a network.
Not one but three Cité de la Gastronomie in Dijon, Paris-Rungis and Tours have been chosen. Paris-Rungis will hold a training centre for restaurants, adding an area for economic developments in tourism and gastronomy.
