High production and quality for melon

The areas under production for the 2015 campaign ( 13,600 hectares ) were roughly equivalent to those of 2014 but production has increased ( 273 300 tonnes estimated to be +12 %).

Yields rose to high production throughout the campaign. Only harvests in September were down compared to 2014. Exports remained dynamic , up by 9 % from last year. The quantities exported are lower than those imported , resulting in a trade deficit of over 100,000 tonnes since the beginning of the year .

The production was of quality with a high sugar content and a majority of big calibers . The 2015 campaign is expected to end in late September.
