Strong demand in China for COMPAC, the grading machines expert

COMPAC the New Zealander sorting machines manufacturer experienced a strong demand in China.

The New Zealander specialist of sorting machine: COMPAC has exhibited in Asia Fruit Logistica. The company has been active in Asia for the last 10 years.

First country to adopt the COMPAC technology has been South Korea and very rapidly the company has developed its sales in China. A service team has been first set up in China followed by a factory established back in 2014 for sorters from 1 to 14 lines. The factory is ISO Certified and 40 employees are permanently working there.

Today, Compac has 4 factories all over the world: in New Zealand, in China, in Uruguay and in Spain. Every factory manufactures the same sorters.

Questioned about the Chinese market, Bob Shaw, Asia Sales Director of COMPAC explains:

“China is a strong developing market. A lot of people are just entering the market and invest a lot of money in the fresh produce industry. We have very good technology, well adapted to big and delicate produce: as Fuji Apples, Kiwis, Citrus…”

“Our mission is to understand very precisely our customers’ needs in order to set up the best equipment for them. Our technology is well established and we benefit from different maintenance teams based in Guangzhou, Chengdu and Kunshan (2 hours from Shanghai).”

Apart from booming China, Asia shows different faces.

Bob Shaw adds:

“In South-East Asia, the market will need few years to change. There are still a lot of hand operations in packing houses.

“In India, the market will move very fast, very soon. Government is creating Mega Storage Areas to compensate the lack of food storage. These areas will group together packing houses, cold stores, transport companies… Realized by public bodies together with private investors, these areas will be set up in few strategic places.”
