These are roses grown in the region of Isparta for the production of essentially rose oil and rose water, products used in many cosmetics, perfumes and pharmaceuticals.
Turkey and Bulgaria together produce about 90% of rose oil in the world. In 2014, about 10 851 tonnes had been produced and this year it is expected that 10 064 tonnes will be produced.
Harvesting is done during the months of May and June and the products are among the most expensive commodity. It takes about 4-4.5 tonnes of roses to produce one kilo of essential oil.
