The price of Fuji apples recovers
MD
Chinese operators believe that as supply reduces, prices are recovering and should compensate for the losses.
Tthe stock of Fuji apples in cold storage is now near completion. Most companies (around 80%) are estimated to have lost money. In autumn, there was a buying spree on Fuji apples for storage that has pushed prices up. But after New Year the sales price has collapsed because of market weakness.
So last autumn the purchase price of 100-113S was about $0.8 / kg, with the cost of storing the price goes up $1/ kg. Recently the sale price was $ 0.7 / kg which means a loss of $ 0.30 / kg. The losses are of course proportional to the volumes stored and for some companies are enormous.
But cold storage is now coming to an end and the first batches are starting to be sold. Good news for operators in the sector is that due to the quantities of food supply going down, prices have stopped falling and are recovering.
