Strong storms and heavy rains resulting in severe floods have affected several producing regions in Spain. The damage is significant and still difficult to accurately assess.
According to the Spanish media, the Alicante region has 150,000 hectares seriously affected. Many crops are lost, such as artichokes, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and potatoes. Many citrus orchards are flooded and production may be compromised.
In the Almeria region, nearly 2,000 hectares are affected, plantations and greenhouses, the most damaged crops are tomato and zucchini. In the region of Malaga, the production of salads, artichokes, tomatoes are affected. Strong winds led to the fall of fruits such as avocados and mangos.
