While organic products grown in Turkey were previously used for export, consumption of organic products has risen sharply in the domestic market in the recent years.
The Chamber of Agriculture of İzmir launches an alert to consumers against the organic products that are on the market because there is a growing increase of products that in fact are not.
He recalled that organic production conditions were in fact very strict and that obtaining a certificate proving that the product was actually organic was necessary. Consumers should look for the "Organic Agriculture" logo of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The Ministry, supported by the Chambers of Agriculture throughout the country, is launching an intensified control program on these products, the price of which is significantly higher than that of a traditional crop.
