Tunisia has increased exports of dates and now holds the second place behind the United Arab Emirates

Tunisia registers an increase in exports of dates.

Compared to the 2011-2012 season, the country has seen an increase in exports of dates of 10.5%, the volumes increased from 35,000 to 38,700 tons. According to Moncef Chargui, technical director of the GIF (Groupement interprofessionnel des fruits - Group inter-professional of fruit), these figures place Tunisia in second place after the United Arab Emirates, in terms of quantity exported all over the world.

Despite difficult weather conditions (high temperatures, low rainfall, lack of water for irrigation), the production of dates for the 2012-2013 season has reached 193,000 tons, of which 135,800 are of Deglet Nour variety.
