As export markets recover, the banana sector in the Philippines must apply different protocols that affect production and export.
In the Philippines, in the Mindanao region, the main banana producing region, local governments are implementing various measures to combat the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic of Coronavirus. In some areas, farms are closed until further notice. In other areas, the movement of agricultural workers has been restricted, agricultural work is reduced, the number of workers is reduced and a distance of 2 meters is maintained between them.
For professionals in the sector, these measures put a brake on the recent improvement in the markets and will affect the productivity of certain companies. The decrease in production volumes will also lead to a decrease in export volumes.
The Chinese market buys about a third of the country's total banana exports.
