This new biodegradable plastic to cover strawberries will avoid the additional costs of eliminating thousands of tons of standard plastic.
In Huelva, scientists have successfully tested a new plastic that is biodegradable and plant-based.
It has been tested by scientists at the ADESVA (Centro Tecnológico of Agroindustria onubense) and the project was completed in collaboration with the Spanish Ministry of Innovation, a half-dozen European private companies and research centers like the University of Lisbon and Aarhus in Denmark.
This new plastic could be used in strawberry growing in 2 years to limit the environmental impact of farming in the province of Huelva, which currently generates 21,000 tons of plastic.
