China is increasingly targeting emerging markets like Latin America.
A new stage in China–Argentina agro-trade has begun with the first shipment of Chinese fresh pears entering the Argentine market. The inaugural delivery from a Hebei-based company totaled 2,597 boxes (17.5 tons), valued at 183,000 yuan (approximately USD 25,420), and was confirmed by customs in Shijiazhuang. Hebei, a key fruit-producing region in China, exported 69,000 tons of fruit in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 14.8% year-on-year increase.
China, the world’s leading pear producer with 8 million tons annually, is increasingly targeting emerging markets like Latin America. Customs authorities stress the importance of safety controls, pest monitoring, and exporter support to meet global compliance requirements.
In Argentina, the sector’s reaction has been cautious. Nicolás Sánchez of CAFI called for balanced trade and reciprocity in phytosanitary protocols. Exporter Gabriel Grisanti welcomed the opening, but emphasized the importance of fair competition. The pear shipment reflects both opportunity and concern as the two countries adjust to new trade realities.
