"Green" control for melons and watermelons

Control which emphasizes the importance of marketing fruits to their optimum degree of maturity.
In the region of Almeria, the melon crops cover 2,340 hectares and the watermelon crops 8,310 hectares. The region concentrates 30% of national areas of melons and over 40% of watermelon surfaces.
Production for this year is estimated at 105,300 tonnes of melons and 540,150 tonnes of watermelons. The Ministry of Agriculture has just started the campaign "No cortes en verde" (no green fruit harvest). To sensitize producers on the need to harvest fruits that offer the degree of maturity and flavor that consumers expect.
Controls and inspections, including in marketing societies, will take place throughout the campaign, from the end of June to the beginning of July.
