Jingold anticipates a record production
It's time for kiwifruit in the northern hemisphere and Jingold expects a record increase in production thanks to the new yellow and red pulp plants, whose production have is now in full swing. The growth in volumes is estimated between 30 and 40%, a reflection of the demand which in recent years has recorded a constantly growing trend. Important quantities are expected especially in Italy, where harvesting in the Romagna area has already begun.
According to estimates, the yellow kiwi will be able to exceed 20 thousand tons. The season of Hayward green-fleshed kiwifruit is more uncertain: the first official calculations foresee an increase of around 20% in Italy and Greece, the two main production areas in Europe, but this will depend on the final phase of growth of the fruits.
“In recent seasons, market demand has been higher than product availability”, explains Moreno Armuzzi, Jingold sales manager. “In recent years we have invested to increase the offer, planning a constant and gradual expansion of the production base and an increase in plants. This year we are ready to reap the benefits of this propulsive thrust: the conditions for the new commercial season are therefore very good."
“We started the checks on red-fleshed kiwifruit, the first to ripen as early as September. The harvest in fact began on September 9th.”, adds Cristina Fabbroni, Jingold's technical manager. “At the end of the month, and early October, the yellow-fleshed kiwifruit will also be ready for harvesting. Both of our top varieties are growing very well, with medium to large sizes and high dry matter values.”
In the meantime, Jingold takes stock of the counter-season, which is starting positively towards the final phase. The company has consolidated supplies with historical customers, especially in Europe and the Far East, recording growth in Brazil and more generally in South America.
“For us it was a positive year despite the complex context”, continues Armuzzi. “Even for the fruit and vegetable sector, these have been difficult months, due to the well-known problems linked to the pandemic and the war between Russia and Ukraine, with logistical difficulties, inflation and rising costs. We are trying to achieve maximum efficiency along the supply chain to minimize the increase in costs for the final consumer, while continuing to guarantee the right remuneration to producers, one of our main objectives."
Jingold now has 800 manufacturing companies around the world and over two thousand hectares of production. “We support our fruit growers at every stage, providing assistance and know-how, so that they can obtain an excellent quality production and make the most of it”, continues Cristina Fabbroni. “100% of our plants are protected by anti-hail nets and many are equipped with double localized irrigation systems to cope with spring frosts and summer heat in the hottest years, while minimizing water waste."
The company, which was born as a consortium in 2001 and won the world exclusive for Jintao yellow-fleshed kiwifruit, has innovation in its DNA: in fact, in 2015 it joined red-fleshed kiwifruit. Very sweet and with an exotic aftertaste, these new kiwis appear on the market, intercepting the tastes of an audience that increasingly prefers fruits with a high sugar content. Today Jingold is one of the major players in the sector and offers a complete range of yellow, green, red and organic kiwifruit.
"We are a young and dynamic company”, concludes Armuzzi. “Our goal is to promote the growth of kiwifruit consumption in the markets in which we have been present for some time and in relatively new ones, on which we want to consolidate our presence. We have ambitious commercial objectives and all the conditions are in place for a highly satisfying commercial season.”
