The EU is helping the African banana sector

European aid MAB (measures of support  to banana provider countries ) are intended to increase productivity while seeking improved working conditions.

These aids will be for a dozen countries, including in Africa, Cameroon, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire.

The EU plans to help ACP producers (the former colonies of Africa, Caribbean and Pacific) to improve their performance. These grants were made ??after the Geneva Agreement, signed between the EU and Latin American banana-producing countries on lowering tariffs on imported bananas.

Signed in December 2009, the agreement provided a gradual decrease up to 114 euros per tonne in 2017 for bananas imported to Europe. So far the EU offered a price advantage to ACP countries and taxed other bananas.
