In California, the Navel orange harvest for the 2022-23 campaign is expected to reach a volume up 19% compared to the previous year.
According to CDFA (California Department of Food and Agriculture) data, the Navel orange harvest for the 2022-23 campaign is estimated at 76.0 million boxes (40lb = 18.14kg). That is an increase of 19% compared to the previous year.
These forecasts are based on the results of the objective measurement survey (estimated fruit set per tree, fruit diameter, trees per acre, areas, etc.) which was conducted from June 17 to September 1, 2022. The survey was indicated that compared to last year, fruit set had increased by 47% but the average fruit size had decreased by 2%.
The bulk of Navel orange production (73 million boxes) will come from the Central Valley which has 108,000 acres (43,706 hectares) in production, with an average of 138 trees per acre.
