Apple exports increased 58.3% in volume in 2021

In 2021, Brazilian apple exports recovered 78.8% in value and 58.3% in volume compared to the previous year, according to data from the Santa Catarina Agricultural Research and Rural Extension Company (Epagri).
Destinations
Bangladesh received 24.4% of exports, with an increase of more than 6,300 T, followed by India with 24.1% and an increase of more than 17,000 T, and Russia with 21.4% with more than 1,6 thousand tons.
Export regions
The state of Santa Catarina showed an interannual rise in export participation from 12.33% to 16.02% (volume).
In terms of value, exports from Santa Catarina increased by 111.8%, from $4.9 million to $10.5 million, between 2020 and 2021.
Those from Rio Grande do Sul maintained the growth in value exported, with an increase of 50.8% between 2020 and 2021.
The estimates for the 2021/22 harvest were adjusted after the consequences of the drought between November and January, which affected some orchards, with a 9.1% reduction in the estimated production in Santa Catarina.
However, a year-on-year rise in state production of 2,818 tons (0.47%) is still expected, according to Epagri.
