Mexican lemon production is on the rise

According to the Mexican Ministry of Agriculture, national lemon production is up 4% on the previous year. The main producing regions are the states of Veracruz and Michoacán, followed by Oaxaca, Colima and Tamaulipas.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development forecasts that the 2021 production of lemons should total 2,964,621 tonnes, +4.0% compared to the previous year.
Based on reports, the ministry estimates production at 808,601 tonnes in the state of Veracruz, 800,313 tonnes in the state of Michoacán, 306,027 tonnes in the state of Oaxaca, 299,505 tonnes in the state of Colima and 142,025 tonnes in the state of Tamaulipas, from 116,853 to 142,025 tonnes. Together, these states account for almost 80% of Mexican production.
In order to further increase the production and competitiveness of small-scale lemon producers, the Ministry of Agriculture through INIFAP (Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Forestales, Agrícolas y Pecuarias) provides information and advice on various topics such as organic fertilisers and techniques for improving citrus crops.
