The avocado production forecast in Mexico for fiscal year 2020/21 (July / June) shows an increase over the previous year. This allows us to predict a 6% increase in Mexican avocado exports.
According to the recent GAIN FAS report prepared by USDA services, the avocado production forecast in Mexico for fiscal year 2020/21 (July / June) is 2.41 million tonnes, or nearly + 6% compared to the previous year (2.32 million tonnes according to official data).
These forecasts for 2020/21 are based on the continued extension of the planted areas and on optimal climatic conditions without hail or frost during the growing season. Harvested area is expected to increase to 232,495 hectares.
Regarding exports, Mexico is expected to reach for 2020/21 a total of 1.35 million tonnes of avocados, 6% more than the previous year. Demand for avocados in the United States remains strong and is expected to increase. As a result, Mexican exports to the United States are expected to amount to 1.02 million tonnes, higher than last season's 963,539 tonnes.
In Mexico the harvest reaches its peak between October and February, the supply is average from March to May, and the low season is from June to September.
