According to data from COMTRADE, United Nations Statistics Division, Spain in 2017 for the first time surpassed Mexico, becoming the world's No. 1 exporter of watermelons.
In 2017 the total volume exported by all countries of the world was 3,370.27 million kilograms. Spain exported 738.63 million kilograms, Mexico 669.54 million kilograms and the United States 222.07 million kilograms.
Spain (21.92%) and Mexico (19.87%) exported 41.79% of the total volume.
Then in the standings, Italy is 4th with 214.18 million kilos, then Vietnam with 180.71 million kilos, Greece with 170.47 million kilos, Morocco with 139.17 million kilos and Guatemala 107.34 million kilograms.
