This line, nicknamed the “primeurs train”, connects the Saint Charles International platform in Perpignan to the Rungis market, near Paris. Suspended in 2019, the line should resume next month
The Prime Minister, Jean Castex, and the Minister of Transport, Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, have confirmed the imminent reopening of the Perpignan-Rungis rail freight line.
This reopening is part of the government plan for the development of rail freight. Transporting nearly 2 million tonnes of fruit and vegetables per year, the rail link was suspended in 2019 for lack of investment. It should resume in mid-October according to the ministry.
The line connects the Saint-Charles International platform in Perpignan, the leading fruit and vegetable marketing, transport and logistics center in Europe, to the Rungis market (Val-de-Marne), near Paris. The Perpignan-Rungis will be made up of 12 wagons and will run at the rate of 5 weekly connections.
The rail line represents the equivalent of traffic of around 9,000 trucks per year, according to the ministry.
