40% increase in volume for citrus exports

A bountiful harvest and increased demand for citrus fruits have resulted in a surge in Peruvian exports (Photo: conveagro.org.pe).
International demand for citrus fruits during the COVID-19 pandemic has boosted exports from Peru, which have just recorded a 40% increase in volumes shipped.
According to Fresh Cargo Peru data, citrus exports between early 2020 and August 15 totaled 198,996 tonnes, which is a 40% increase from the 142,092 tonnes shipped in the same period last year.
Mandarins performed the best, in particular the W. Murcott varieties with 61,920 tonnes (+ 57%), Satsuma with 35,672 tonnes (+ 32%), Tango with 29,042 tonnes (+ 76%).
During this period, week 01 to week 33, the main destination for Peruvian citrus fruits was North America with 107,047 tonnes (+ 61%), followed by Europe with 70,251 tonnes (+ 24%), the Asia with 13,334 tonnes (+ 12%), Latin America with 7,654 tonnes (+ 19%) and Africa with 710 tonnes (+ 10%).
