Whether in Muğla, in the Aegean region, in Adana and Mersin in southeastern Turkey, or in Adıyaman, still lower in the south, all farmers have been affected by the cold and the arrival of the belated winter.
A windstorm, sometimes reaching a speed of 80 kms per hour damaged the strawberry greenhouses in Silifke and tomatoes and cucumbers in other regions. The facilities were largely destroyed and the vegetables and fruits unsaleable. The fruits in the orchards were torn from the trees.
According to the Regional Director of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, the damage is enormous and state support is needed. A regional commission was set up to quantify the damage. Different measures, such as delays in the payment of credits, should be taken to help producers overcome this bad pass.
