Stable volumes for mushroom production

In Germany the 2018 production of mushrooms remained almost stable compared to the volume produced the previous year according to data from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

 

 

 

The 2018 production of cultivated mushrooms totaled 73,231 tonnes in Germany. This volume is virtually unchanged from 73,454 tonnes the previous year.

 

 

 

The mushroom production area increased by 11% in one year to reach 342 hectares in 2018. The proportion of areas dedicated to organic production increased from 12% in 2017 to 14% in 2018.

 

 

 

Mushroom production is present in only 9 federal states. The 2 most important states are Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) with a harvest area of 160 hectares and a production in 2018 of 33,543 tonnes and Nordrhein-Westfalen (North Rhine-Westphalia) with a harvest area of 59 hectares and a production in 2018 of 14,833 tonnes.
