In Peru, the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), through the National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa), has made the decision to suspend the import of several fresh fruits from Chile, including plumcots, nectarines, cherries, peaches, apricots, plums and apples, due to the risk of introduction of the Grapholita annoying pest.
This measure, reflected in Directorial Resolution No. 014-2024-Midagri-Senasa-DSV, responds to the recurring detections of this quarantine pest at entry points to the country.
The measure comes into force immediately after its publication and will remain in force until coordinated investigations are carried out with the Chilean export authority, pest risk analyzes are updated and new phytosanitary requirements are established to guarantee safety in the trade of these fruits. During this period, inspection will only be permitted of shipments that have a phytosanitary import permit issued prior to the date of publication of this resolution and that have been certified and shipped from Chile before the regulations came into force.
This determination was made after urgent technical meetings with the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) of Chile, due to multiple interceptions of the pest in shipments of fresh fruits from that country.
